Five minute Friday (on Sunday)

So as I was hopping around blogs I found this FANTASTIC blog that hosts "Five Minute Friday" every week.  These are her rules

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

And I am excited about this!   Right up my alley!  Yes...I understand it's Sunday.  But the linky is still up...which means better late than never right?  Besides..you all miss my witty remarks! :)

The prompt this week was Path.  So....here goes!

READY....GO

PATH

Once....while much younger....I thought the path to life was simple...straight forward.
The older I got, the wiser I got.
The path got curvy.
With each child the path seemed to take different twists and turns.
The path straightened out at times...and that's what we call the easy years.
You know....when things seems to be smooth sailing....
By the time baby boy number five came along our path went down a cliff.....
And yet we were able to find our way again...we found the path.
This path of ours....it has led us to extreme joy....and painful heartache.
And now....this very year...this very week....this path dips again.
I send my oldest son off to college....not down the street...but to an island in the pacific.
I will miss him dearly.
His path is starting.
That is so strange to think of.
His path is just beginning....to him it is simple....straight forward.
I can't wait to see what twists and turns his path takes.
I hope he remembers that I will always be there.

STOP

Wow...that was awesome.....so fun!  I highly recommend writing this way!

Dear Blog of mine....

Dear Life,

Today this post is for you...my blog....

How did you come about?

I resisted you.
For years.
I swore I didn't have time.
I was intimidated by the infinite amount of fabulous bloggers out there.
But the secret is....in my heart I'm a writer.
I'm not a journal writer.
I've tried that...not successful.
I've been writing Kumaka's journal for five years now.
That must have given me the courage to write for me.
It does take courage...
Sometimes I'm not sure I've succeeded...
But I keep writing.
There is so much to say...
So much to share.
And I have learned so very much.
Because of you I have met some FANTASTIC people.
People who inspire me.
People who have prayed with me.
People who make me laugh.
People who make me think.
People I have never met and may never meet.
I love that.
You are just a new little blog.
In my dreams you will grow big and strong and make a difference.
My life....my blog....my dreams...my fears....all in black and white and sometimes color.
Thank you for this journey...it's pretty amazing!

The day music collided

Dear Life,

Today the best thing happened.  I was listening to my playlist on Spotify (which I LOVE by the way) when my seventeen year old comes over and.....
wait for it......
ASKS me to play
WHITNEY HOUSTON!

WHAT?????
I KNOW!!!!!!
So I let him choose the song.
You'll never guess......
I Will Always Love You.....
He turned it up loud...
As he started singing and I had to lift my chin up off the floor!
He then proceeded to tell me very matter of factly that Mariah Carey and Kelly Clarkson both said that Whitney Houston was their inspiration.
Who is this kid?????
Let me just clue you in on the fact that we like almost NONE of the same music at this time.  Although I think he secretly likes Adele but he won't ever fess up to that one.
He's still mad that he knows words to country songs since that was all we listened to for a long time when he was younger.  It irritates him that the words come unbidden.
I love being surprised by Keoni and I love that our music collided today!
