I haven't personally done my family's Genealogy, only because it's slightly overwhelming. Although I don't even know where I come from, I do know that there is a really cool famous athlete in my family.
Wondering who this baseball player is? His name is Ralph "Socks" Seybold. He played FOr the Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Athletics. Socks Seybold set career highs in home runs, with 16 and runs batted in with 97. The home run total led the league and stood as the American League record until Babe Ruth broke it in 1919. Socks is my Great Uncle. Pretty cool, right? What's in your family tree???
Fun! I know on my Dad's side of the family, I am related to Robert E. Lee somehow. Many of our relatives (including me) have the middle name of Lee because of it! I also have a few horse thieves who were hanged and a tie to the DAR. Many of my relatives on my mom's side were from Ohio near Kirtland. (Could they have been part of the mobs who persecuted the Mormons???) I too, was overwhelmed to do my family history, but was surprised to find that a lot of the work had already been done! Jump in, it's lots of fun!
ReplyDelete:) It's so cool to find colorful names in your geneology!
DeleteI have a lot of info on my Dad's side. My great grandparents were born in Dublin and made the trek to New York...but further back than that there is not too much. I do know I am Irish/Scot...not sure if there is anything else in there yet. My mom's side is a TOTAL mystery. My maternal grandfather's father and mother divorced when he was young and his mother died soon after and I cannot find ANYTHING on her. I don't even know her maiden name or when she died. I guess I am at the point where I need to start shelling out some money for birth and death certificates to find out more information. I love it though, discovering where my roots are. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that your family blames the arsonist for the "hotheads" in the family....classic!
DeleteThat's awesome! My parents & hubs would think that was totally awesome as they are HUGE Reds fans! Very very cool.
