Ah-Maze-ing

Dear Life,

I am blown away.
Awestruck.
AMAZED.

At what you ask?

ALL OF YOU.

You all have brought our news to your hearts and given us a big hug (via the internet).  My eyes filled with tears so many times yesterday as I read your sweet notes of acceptance, love, joy, encouragement, and hope.  My family and I really want to say how much that means to us.  It was a little scary to push publish yesterday.  We were a little afraid of a backlash.  We do already have five children after all....and adding one more...with extra's....is a lot.  There is truth in that.  BUT the facts are this, our family has enough love, and enough knowledge, and enough faith to know that we can love our sweet baby A.  We may not be rich, but what we CAN give her is more than that....we can give her the potential to be MORE.  TO DREAM.  TO SMILE.  TO TALK.  TO MOVE.  TO DANCE.

If you don't know what I'm talking about HERE is the post I'm referring to.

The other women in my life

Dear Life,

As I was thinking about the women that shaped my life for my Mother's Day post (read here), I was thinking about a few other women that have shaped me as well.
I think the list could be quite extensive, and just in case I forget someone, I am not going to rattle off names.  I can tell you that as early as Jr. High, there were people who have changed me.

Friends that have remained friends for over twenty years.

Friends that have had enough guts to tell me when I was wrong; friends to love me when my heart was breaking; friends who giggled with me when I was silly; friends who have been joyous with me during triumph and friends that have prayed, cried, and hugged me as I've learned to be a different kind of mom these past few years.
Friends who have taught me to dream...to believe...to live bigger, better and happier.

What about my sisters?

Sisters who deal with me even when I'm cranky and bossy (hey..it comes with the territory...I'm the oldest after all).
Sisters that are there for the good, bad and ugly.  Sisters know it all...and could really make your life crazy if they wanted to!

New friends who have taught me things I didn't know before...pioneer friends.
Friends who battle things, who show strength, who teach compassion, who teach joy in all things, who give of themselves when they are struggling.

The love in a woman's heart; the strength in a woman's hand; the knowledge in a woman's brain; the compassion in a woman's core is how we all get through life with joy.

I am so grateful for all of you who have touched my life, my heart, my soul.  I thank you.  I love you.

Yesterday brought the beginning, tomorrow brings the end, and somewhere in the middle we became the best of friends.  ~Author Unknown

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.  It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.  We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.  ~Albert Schweitzer

Jewels

Dear Life,

I have met two girls whose beauty rival any precious jewel.   They both sparkle and shine like prized precious jewels.

 via
Elizabeth Taylor jewels....
Although both girls are beautiful on the outside, their hearts are so full that their faces shine with inner light and beauty.
These two seventeen year olds don't rely on womanly wiles, don't flaunt their faces with too much makeup or their bodies with not enough clothes.

These two girls have tapped into the most important thing in life...

One of them has recognized that my son is feeling down....and that he's unsure of who his friends are and what his beliefs are. She has decided to make him a scrapbook with letters from his friends....with pictures...with CD's for different moods...to help him realize when he's in Hawaii that he is never alone.  I am totally amazed by this girls ability to realize that something like this can totally make a difference for my boy.  (If you're a teen reading this it's a secret...so don't tell him).  She's been worried about him and felt like this was a way she could help him.   I can't believe she tapped into exactly what he needs to hear right now....LOVE her!!

Another has taken a family tragedy and strengthened her own personal relationship with God and is helping strengthen others in her own sweet way.  To see a young girl deal with a tragedy that could flatten an adult....  with grace and a never ending smile, and realizing that having an eternal perspective on life changes everything blows my mind. Then her willingness to share that testimony with others....her joy for the gospel radiates from her sweet smile.... LOVE her!!

 via

These two find their love for their Savior, their love for their friends, their love for their families, and allows it to change them into better people.

I love these two girls...and I love their families.  And to be fair....these aren't the only two.

I am learning more from these two...

one day....

maybe one day...

I'll be able to shine like these two young girls.

This is what these girls learn about...and I think they both GET it!

We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us,
and we love him. We will "stand as witnesses of God at all
times and in all things, and in all places..." as we strive
to live the Young Women Values, which are:
Faith
Divine Nature
Individual Worth
Knowledge
Choice and Accountability
Good Works
Integrity and
Virtue
We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values,
we will be prepared to strengthen home and family, make and keep
sacred covenants, receive ordinances of the temple, and
enjoy the blessings of exaltation.

Don't forget about the giveaway...before it's GONE....

A Letter About Life

Dear Life,

When I was younger I didn't think I would ever get married. Because my own mother married three times, I didn't WANT to be married. It was obviously overrated. But miraculously, I met a wonderful man and did indeed get married. Over the years our family has grown, boy after boy, until we have a grand total of five boys. Two are in high school, one is in junior high, one is in elementary school and one is in preschool. I love my boys (and my husband) more than life itself. I thank God every day that He has chosen me to be their mother. But in the next breath I often question His wisdom. I was a great mom to one boy; we went to the park, I read to him daily, we went on weekly excursions together. Three years later, boy number two came and I loved having my two little boys. Our little family of four could be seen at Disneyland, the movies, the mall shopping or hanging out at home. We had a great time. When boy number three came along, I started getting overwhelmed. Lucky for me this young man is easygoing and loves me no matter what. He is just like his Dad, patient, understanding, and giving. God knew I needed help I think. Two years later a fourth boy came and I though I had it under control. These boys kept me busy, but I really really enjoyed them. We started having to learn how to deal with school districts, IEP's for language and speech, ADD, and homework. Oh the homework. The bane of my existence. Just as I thought I was getting it, I finally was figuring out how to be a good mom again; taking the boys to the pool, the library, putting them in soccer and swimming; I had my last boy. He is a blessing to our family. He is an angel here on earth. I can't imagine my life without him. He was born with Spina Bifida, two severely clubbed feet, hydrocephalus, and the biggest personality you could find on a four year old. This boy has been through more than all of us put together and then some. He does it all with a sweet smile and sometimes a little bit of a funny attitude. Nothing stops him. But recently I feel like everything stops me. Between helping my high school senior figure out his next steps, watching my freshman get his feet wet in high school, viewing my junior high boy successfully juggle the jungle of preteen hormones, helping my little 9 year old not get lost in the shuffle, and managing major health issues of my youngest, I am tired. Weary. And curious. How did I get this lot? I'm not complaining, believe me. But am I really the woman to do this...and do it well? My sweet husband has to really deal with a sometimes grumpy, not very organized, mess of a wife. I mean well, and I have great ideas. But most of the time I am too exhausted to actually make things happen. I feel like I am watching my life unfold from the sidelines. How do I get up and participate? I have never felt so much love from so many people in one house, nor have I felt so much frustration. I am at the point of losing control....at times I wonder if I've done enough, loved enough, cared enough (or possibly too much) and hugged enough. I love them all with every fiber of my being. Do they know that? Does my husband know how much I adore him? I am lucky....and exhausted. I am loved and I love....but is it enough? How am I doing I wonder and how will it all turn out? Will my kids look back and blame me for their quirky behavior like I do my own mom? I truly had no idea I would be a wife, mother to five, a chauffeur, a nurse, an advocate, a crafter, a banker, a lover, a fighter, and more sleep deprived than humanly possible. I didn't know I would be capable of loving this deep and fighting this hard. I just hope that my family knows that this life is hard, but oh so worth it. That I am grateful for all of this...even the deep dark circles under my eyes and pounding headache. I am amazed....I had no idea that this is what life was about. Thanks life, thanks for everything. And please remind my husband that I love him...he's sleeping right now.
